Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive trend above the $75,000 mark, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as crucial for bulls to maintain their position. However, some observers are advising caution, noting that prices must remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex warned that the market is pricing in two possible scenarios - extension and de-escalation or renewed escalation and oil stress - which could lead to rapid price movements. The situation is further complicated by the nomination hearing of Kevin Warsh for Federal Reserve chair, scheduled for Tuesday, as his remarks could significantly impact markets. Warsh is known for his stance as an 'inflation hawk,' having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 financial crisis. Meanwhile, major cryptocurrencies such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. In contrast, smaller tokens like XLM and TON have experienced significant gains of over 5% each, with the CoinDesk Memecoin Index rising by more than 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the recent hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been severely impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform plummeting to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has fallen by 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
