Alchemy CEO Claims Cryptocurrency is Better Suited for AI Agents Than Humans
The existing financial system was not designed with machines in mind, but rather around the constraints of human life, including geographical location, sleep patterns, and physical presence. However, as AI agents become more involved in economic activities, this human-centric design is becoming a bottleneck, according to Nikil Viswanathan, co-founder of the crypto firm Alchemy. Viswanathan suggests that cryptocurrency was built for AI agents, not humans. The traditional financial system has limitations such as operating hours, country-specific payments, and credit cards that require physical identity and presence. In contrast, AI agents operate globally, do not require sleep, and do not have physical presence. They can transact online and do not need traditional financial infrastructure. Viswanathan believes that cryptocurrency is the native infrastructure for AI agents, offering a global, always-on financial layer where value can be transferred easily. The complexity of cryptocurrency, which can be a challenge for humans, is actually a strength for machines. AI agents can operate natively in code and can handle the complexity of cryptocurrency automatically. Viswanathan envisions a future where AI agents will sit on top of crypto infrastructure, managing complexity, executing transactions, and optimizing capital flows in real-time, making it easier for people to control their funds. This would result in a more global, programmable, and autonomous financial system.
