Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading at $77,567.54 with a positive trend, surpassing the critical $75,000 threshold. However, analysts urge caution as prices must remain above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The market is pricing in two possible scenarios: an extension of the ceasefire or a renewed escalation, which could significantly impact oil prices and global equity markets. Bitcoin's resilience during the March conflict, when it remained steady around $70,000, raises questions about its potential response to renewed escalation. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Meanwhile, Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair is scheduled for Tuesday, and his remarks could act as a near-term catalyst for market movement, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens like XLM and TON have risen by more than 5% each, with the CoinDesk Memecoin Index up over 3%. The DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly impacted, with its total value of crypto assets locked falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, pointing to potential volatility ahead. In terms of trends, XRP remains below both its 100-day average and the prolonged bear market trendline, indicating weaker momentum compared to bitcoin and ether, which have established firmer bullish structures.
