Army Green Beret Arrested for Allegedly Betting on Venezuela Raid

The U.S. Department of Justice has arrested an Army master sergeant for allegedly using classified information to bet on a military operation in Venezuela, which led to the arrest of Nicolas Maduro. The sergeant, Gannon Ken Van Dyke, is said to have placed $33,000 in bets on the raid through the online platform Polymarket, winning around $400,000. Van Dyke has been charged with unlawfully using government information for personal gain, theft, and fraud. According to the indictment, Van Dyke created a Polymarket account in December 2025 and made 13 bets on contracts related to the potential U.S. military operation in Venezuela. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also pursuing an insider trading complaint against Van Dyke. The case has drawn attention to the issue of insider trading and the use of confidential information for personal gain. Van Dyke's actions have been condemned by U.S. officials, with the CFTC Chairman stating that he 'endangered U.S. national security and put the lives of American service members in harm's way.' The incident has also sparked a reaction from U.S. President Donald Trump, who expressed his disapproval of the practice of betting on sensitive information.
