Parasite Mining Pool Strikes Again, Uncovering the Potential of Hybrid Mining Models

A pioneering Bitcoin mining pool, designed to challenge conventional mining models, has achieved a significant milestone by mining its second block. This pool, known as Parasite Pool, operates on an unconventional hybrid model where the miner who solves a block is rewarded with 1 BTC, and the remaining 2.125 BTC, along with transaction fees, are proportionally distributed among all pool participants based on their contributions. Notably, this pool does not charge any participation fees and facilitates payouts via the Lightning Network. The underlying principle of Bitcoin mining involves a competition among computers to solve complex cryptographic puzzles, with the winner being granted the right to add a new block of transactions to the blockchain and receiving a reward. Currently, this reward consists of 3.125 BTC plus transaction fees, valued at around $238,000. The mining landscape is predominantly controlled by large-scale industrial operators utilizing specialized hardware. However, Parasite Pool aims to cater to home miners, offering an alternative to the traditional winner-takes-all approach. By splitting the block reward, Parasite Pool seeks to provide a more consistent income stream for its participants. The successful mining of a second block validates the pool's operational model, retaining hashrate despite the 48-day gap between payouts. With a current hashrate of 52 petahashes per second, Parasite Pool accounts for a small fraction of the overall Bitcoin network hashrate. The success of this hybrid model could potentially pave the way for more innovative mining approaches in the future.
