Proposal Could Put Quantum-Related Bitcoin at Risk of Being Frozen
Recent Developments in the Crypto Space A proposed Bitcoin protocol update has sparked concern among holders, as it could potentially freeze coins vulnerable to quantum computer attacks. The Bitcoin Improvement Proposal (BIP)-361 aims to migrate coins to quantum-resistant addresses, or they may be rendered immovable. This comes as a recent Google report suggests a powerful enough quantum machine could compromise the Bitcoin blockchain more easily than previously thought, with some predicting 2029 as the deadline for bitcoin to become quantum-resistant. AI-powered agents are increasingly being used for crypto payments and other financial tasks, but research has found that the infrastructure supporting these agents may not be secure. So-called 'LLM routers' can serve as an attack vector for malicious actors, leaving users vulnerable to data breaches and financial loss. As AI agents take on more real-world tasks, the risks associated with these vulnerabilities are becoming more pronounced. Decentralized trading platform CoW Swap recently halted its services after detecting a domain name system (DNS) hijacking incident. Although the protocol's underlying infrastructure was not directly compromised, the attack highlights the ongoing security risks associated with the front-end layer of DeFi platforms. DNS hijacking can allow attackers to redirect users to malicious sites, potentially draining crypto wallets or harvesting private data. The XRP Ledger has integrated with Boundless, a zero-knowledge proving network, to add native support for zero-knowledge proofs. This move is designed to enable financial institutions to transact privately on the public blockchain while meeting regulatory requirements. Zero-knowledge proofs allow one party to prove a statement is true without revealing the underlying data, addressing a significant barrier to institutional adoption of public blockchains.
