Breakthrough in Quantum Attack: Researcher Claims 1 Bitcoin Bounty

Lelli was awarded a 1 bitcoin bounty by quantum security startup Project Eleven for successfully breaking a 15-bit elliptic curve key on publicly accessible quantum hardware. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the development of quantum attacks, which could potentially threaten the security of major blockchains, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. The broken key is a crucial component of elliptic curve cryptography, a math-based system that enables crypto wallets to prove ownership of funds without revealing private keys. However, quantum computers running Shor's algorithm can potentially derive private keys from public ones, compromising the security of these systems.
