Major Upgrade Unveiled by Sam Altman's World Project to Combat Deepfakes and Bots

The World digital identity project, backed by Sam Altman, has announced a significant upgrade to its World ID system, positioning it as a 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure for consumers, enterprises, and AI agents. This overhaul aims to address growing concerns over bots and deepfakes impersonating humans online. The system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices to establish proof of humanity, requiring users to visit an Orb in person for face and iris scanning to generate a unique cryptographic code. The update focuses on improving privacy, security, and usability, introducing new features such as account-based identity and multi-key support. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced to allow users to manage credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly. The company is expanding its partnerships with various platforms, including Tinder, Zoom, and Docusign, to embed its identity layer across consumer and enterprise platforms, aiming to combat issues like scalper bots and deepfakes in meetings.
