US Army Green Beret Arrested for Allegedly Betting on Venezuela Raid

A US Army Master Sergeant has been arrested for allegedly using classified information to place bets on a military operation in Venezuela. Gannon Ken Van Dyke, a member of the Army Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets, is accused of using his knowledge of the operation to place $33,000 in bets, which resulted in winnings of approximately $400,000. The indictment alleges that Van Dyke created a Polymarket account and placed 13 bets between December 26, 2025, and January 2, 2026, on contracts related to the US military operation in Venezuela. The US Department of Justice and the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission are pursuing charges against Van Dyke, including unlawful use of confidential government information, theft, and fraud. Van Dyke allegedly attempted to conceal his identity and deleted his Polymarket account after the raid. The case has drawn attention to the use of insider information in prediction markets, with US President Donald Trump expressing his disapproval of such activities.
