Major Upgrade to Combat Deepfakes and Bots Unveiled by Sam Altman's World Project

The World project, backed by Sam Altman, has announced a significant upgrade to its World ID system, aiming to provide 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure for consumers, enterprises, and AI agents. This move comes amidst growing concerns over bots, deepfakes, and AI agents impersonating humans online. To address this, World is enhancing its authentication, payment, and internet services. The system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices for in-person verification, scanning faces and irises to generate a unique cryptographic code. This code is then anonymized and distributed across a network to confirm the individual's uniqueness without revealing their identity. The update focuses on improving privacy, security, and usability, introducing features like account-based identity and recovery mechanisms. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced to allow users to manage their credentials seamlessly across platforms. The company is partnering with various platforms, including Tinder, where users can display a 'verified human' badge, and Zoom, where a 'Deep Face' feature will verify meeting participants' humanity. Additionally, World is working with Docusign to incorporate proof-of-human checks into digital agreements, aiming to establish a trust layer for automated workflows without requiring personal data.
