Major Upgrade Unveiled by Sam Altman's World Project to Combat Deepfakes and Bots

The World digital identity project, backed by Sam Altman, has announced a significant upgrade to its World ID system, dubbed 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure. This overhaul aims to address the growing concerns over bots, deepfakes, and AI agents impersonating humans online by focusing on authentication, payments, and internet services. The project utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices to establish proof of humanity, where users' faces and irises are scanned to generate a unique cryptographic code. This code is then used to create a credential that verifies an individual's humanity online without revealing their identity. The updated architecture prioritizes privacy, security, and usability, with new features such as account-based identity, multi-key support, and recovery mechanisms. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced to allow users to manage their credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly. World is expanding its partnerships with various consumer platforms, including Tinder, where users can display a 'verified human' badge, and Zoom, where a 'Deep Face' feature will verify meeting participants' humanity. The project is also working with Docusign to incorporate proof-of-human checks into digital agreements. Additionally, World is developing tooling such as 'AgentKit' to enable developers to attach human-verified credentials to agents, facilitating trusted automated workflows without requiring personal data.
