Crypto Clarity Act Faces Uphill Battle in Senate Despite Possible Path Forward
The prospects for the Crypto Clarity Act appear dim for April, but a US Senate committee hearing scheduled for May could potentially revive the critical market structure legislation, provided it reaches a final vote by July, according to lawmakers and lobbyists. The legislative calendar is rapidly filling up, with only a dozen weeks of work remaining before the November congressional elections. A Senate aide indicated that negotiations over decentralized finance protections have been largely settled, leaving the stablecoin-yield concerns as a primary obstacle. The bill must clear the Senate Banking Committee, merge with the version passed by the Senate Agriculture Committee, and undergo further revisions before a final vote. The legislation aims to provide clarity on the regulatory framework for digital assets, but its progress has been hindered by disagreements over stablecoin rewards programs. If passed, the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act would become the second major crypto bill to be enacted into law, following last year's Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins Act. Despite the challenges, crypto lobbyists remain hopeful that the legislation can still be passed, albeit with a tight timeline and low odds of success.
