Bitcoin Surpasses Critical Threshold Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive trend above $75,000, a crucial level for maintaining bullish control, as highlighted by CoinDesk. However, observers are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted that the market must consider two possible paths: extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil stress, which could lead to significant price fluctuations. This uncertainty is exacerbated by the upcoming nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, known for his stance as an inflation hawk. Warsh's remarks could significantly impact markets, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing, according to QCP Capital. Meanwhile, major cryptocurrencies like ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. In contrast, smaller tokens such as XLM and TON have experienced gains of over 5%. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has risen by more than 3%, and the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the recent hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly impacted, with its total value locked falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion. Aave's native token, AAVE, has decreased by 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility. Notably, XRP remains below both its 100-day average and the prolonged bear market trendline, indicating weaker momentum compared to bitcoin and ether, which have established firmer bullish structures.
