Bitcoin Surpasses Critical Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading at $77,655.49, maintaining a positive trajectory above the crucial $75,000 level, which is essential for bulls to retain control. However, analysts are advising caution, as prices must remain above this level through Wednesday when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The market is anticipating two possible outcomes: an extension and de-escalation or renewed escalation and increased oil prices. According to Marex analysts, 'The ceasefire is set to expire on Wednesday evening Washington time, and the market must consider two paths, which is why even with a strong BTC, the market can still experience significant fluctuations due to headline risk with a timer.' An escalation could lead to oil prices exceeding the March high of $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan, and on Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his 'inflation hawk' stance, having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing after the 2008 crash. His remarks during the hearing could potentially move markets, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen less than a 2% increase over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens like XLM and TON have risen by over 5% each, and the CoinDesk Memecoin Index is up by over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the KelpDAO hack over the weekend, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token as collateral on several DeFi platforms. Aave, a decentralized lender, has taken the biggest hit, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token hit a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
