Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive outlook above the $75,000 threshold, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as essential for bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, pointing out that prices must remain above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is scheduled to end. According to analysts at Marex, the market is pricing in two possible scenarios - an extension of the ceasefire and de-escalation, or a renewal of escalation and increased oil prices. This uncertainty could lead to sudden market movements, despite Bitcoin's current strength. The situation is further complicated by the upcoming nomination hearing for Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh, known for his hawkish stance on inflation. His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies such as Ether, Solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming Bitcoin. Meanwhile, smaller tokens like XLM and TON have seen gains of over 5% each, and the CoinDesk Memecoin Index is up by over 3%. The DeFi Select Index has also added 2%, despite the recent hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used collateral token on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has been severely impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a drop of nearly $10 billion since the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, pointing to potential increased volatility ahead.
