Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level as Markets Await Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive outlook above the $75,000 threshold, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as pivotal for bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, caution is being advised as the price needs to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is scheduled to end. Analysts at Marex noted that the market is pricing in two potential paths - either an extension and de-escalation of the conflict or a renewed escalation that could lead to increased oil prices and market volatility. This 'headline risk with a timer' could result in rapid price movements, even with bitcoin currently showing strength. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets, and it remains to be seen whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience or come under pressure. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a significant escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh, known for his 'inflation hawk' stance, could influence market expectations with his remarks, particularly if they reinforce the possibility of policy easing. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies like ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin, while smaller tokens like XLM and TON have risen by over 5%. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has also seen an increase of over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index added 2%, despite the recent hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a drop of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93, and open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, potentially signaling more volatility ahead.
