Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level as Warsh Hearing Looms

The bitcoin price is currently trading with an upward trend above the $75,000 threshold, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as pivotal for the bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is scheduled to expire. According to analysts at Marex, "The ceasefire is set to end on Wednesday evening Washington time, and the market must consider two possible scenarios: an extension and de-escalation, or a renewed escalation and increased oil prices. That's why, even with a strong BTC, the market can still experience rapid fluctuations. It's a case of headline risk with a timer." An escalation could push oil prices above the March high of $119, potentially causing Asian and global equity markets to plummet. The question is whether bitcoin, which remained relatively stable around $70,000 during the March conflict, will continue to show resilience or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan. On Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another event on analysts' radar is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his "inflation hawk" stance, having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing after the 2008 crash. His remarks during the session could significantly impact the markets. "His comments could act as a short-term catalyst, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing," notes digital assets trading firm QCP Capital. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies like ether, solana, and XRP have seen less than a 2% increase over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens, such as XLM and TON, have risen by more than 5% each, with the CoinDesk Memecoin Index up over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, a surprise given the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token as collateral on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has been the hardest hit, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead. Currently trending is the signal that XRP remains below both its 100-day average and the prolonged bear market trendline, even as market leaders bitcoin and ether have surpassed these levels on their respective price charts. Until the price reclaims both the 100-day average and the downtrend line, momentum will remain weaker compared to BTC and ETH, which have established firmer bullish structures.
