Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing
The bitcoin price is currently trading above $75,000, a level deemed critical by CoinDesk for bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, warning that prices must remain above this threshold beyond Wednesday when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. According to Marex analysts, the market is bracing for two possible outcomes: an extension of the ceasefire or a renewal of escalation and potential oil price increases. This uncertainty could lead to significant market volatility. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above $119, potentially destabilizing Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience or come under pressure alongside the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a significant escalation if the ceasefire ends without an agreement. Additionally, the nomination hearing of Kevin Warsh for Federal Reserve chair is scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh, known for his hawkish stance on inflation, could influence market expectations with his remarks, particularly if they reinforce the possibility of policy easing. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major coins like ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. However, smaller tokens such as XLM and TON have seen significant increases of over 5%. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has also risen by more than 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index added 2%, despite the recent hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used collateral token on several DeFi platforms. Aave, a decentralized lender, has been heavily impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a drop of nearly $10 billion since the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility.
