Bitcoin Exceeds Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing
The price of Bitcoin, currently at $77,835.28, is showing a positive trend above the $75,000 threshold, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as crucial for bulls to maintain control. However, observers are advising caution, as prices must remain above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted that the market is pricing in two possible scenarios: an extension of the ceasefire and de-escalation, or renewed escalation and oil price increases. This uncertainty could lead to rapid price movements. An escalation of the conflict could send oil prices above $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether Bitcoin will continue to show resilience or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Additionally, the nomination hearing for Kevin Warsh as Federal Reserve chair is scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation and has opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing in the past. His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major coins such as Ether, Solana, and XRP have shown modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming Bitcoin. Smaller tokens, including XLM and TON, have seen gains of over 5%. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has risen by more than 3%. The DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility.
