Major Upgrade Launched by Sam Altman's World to Combat Deepfakes and Bots

World, a digital identity project backed by Sam Altman, has announced its most significant upgrade to World ID, aiming to establish a 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure for consumers, enterprises, and AI agents. The upgrade, revealed in San Francisco, targets the growing issue of bots, deepfakes, and AI agents impersonating humans online by enhancing authentication, payments, and internet services. Altman is also known for his work with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. World's system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices to generate a unique cryptographic code for each user, scanned from their face and iris, which is then anonymized and verified across a distributed network. The update focuses on improving privacy, security, and usability, introducing new features such as account-based identity, multi-key support, and recovery mechanisms. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced to allow users to manage their credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly. The company is expanding its partnerships with consumer platforms like Tinder, where users can display a 'verified human' badge, and is working with Zoom on a 'Deep Face' feature to verify meeting participants. Additionally, World is collaborating with Docusign to incorporate proof-of-human checks into digital agreements, aiming to establish a trust layer for automated workflows without requiring personal data, with the goal of creating a real human network for the internet.
