Arbitrum Secures $71 Million in Ether Tied to Kelp DAO Exploit

Following the significant Kelp DAO exploit, a substantial portion of the stolen funds has been secured. Arbitrum's Security Council has taken decisive action, freezing approximately $71 million worth of ether, or 30,766 ETH, which was linked to the exploit. This move transfers the funds to an intermediary wallet that can only be accessed through additional governance procedures. The action was taken in response to the $292 million rsETH exploit that occurred on Saturday, with the council acting on input from law enforcement regarding the exploiter's identity. The freeze was executed without disrupting any Arbitrum users or applications. This development marks a significant step in the recovery process, as it secures about a quarter of the total amount drained from Kelp's LayerZero-powered bridge during the attack. The stolen funds are now out of the control of the original address that held them, and the move may have implications for the ongoing dispute between Kelp and LayerZero over responsibility for the exploit.
