Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Level Ahead of Warsh Nomination Hearing
The price of Bitcoin is currently trading above $75,000, a level deemed critical by CoinDesk for bulls to maintain their dominance. However, analysts caution that the price must remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted that the market is pricing in two possible scenarios: an extension of the ceasefire and de-escalation, or a renewed escalation that could lead to increased oil prices and market volatility. A potential escalation could drive oil prices above $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether Bitcoin will remain resilient or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Additionally, Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair is scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation and has opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing in the past. His remarks during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. Digital assets trading firm QCP Capital noted that his comments could act as a near-term catalyst for the market. In other market news, major cryptocurrencies such as Ether, Solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming Bitcoin. However, smaller tokens such as XLM and TON have seen significant gains of over 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has also risen by over 3%, and the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93 since the hack, and open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
