UK Seeks to Lure Crypto Exchange Bybit from UAE with Pro-Business Incentives

In a bid to replicate the UAE's success in attracting innovative companies, UK economic development officials have invited Bybit's leadership to London. Bybit CEO Ben Zhou revealed that the UK is eager to attract large businesses and create jobs, with a focus on forthcoming crypto-friendly regulations. Founded in 2018 by Zhou, Bybit relocated its headquarters to Dubai from Singapore in 2022 and is now the second-largest crypto exchange, according to CoinGecko. The UK aims to replicate the UAE's model, where the presence of major crypto players like Bybit and Binance has drawn smaller companies to the region. Zhou noted that the UK has yet to build momentum in this area, but the recent invitation and meetings with the Financial Conduct Authority and House of Lords may mark a turning point. The UK's Treasury is also planning to revamp payment systems using stablecoins and tokenization. Zhou's meetings coincided with UK Fintech Week, and he emphasized that the UK government is keen to push for innovation, particularly in the crypto sector. The invitation comes at an interesting time, as the UAE faces challenges due to the ongoing US-Israel war, prompting an exodus of residents and tourists. The UK may see this as an opportunity to win back companies and investment that have flowed to the UAE in recent years.
