Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing

Bitcoin is trading with a positive outlook above $75,000, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as pivotal for bulls to maintain their grip. However, observers are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted, 'The ceasefire is due to end Wednesday evening Washington time, and the market must consider two paths: extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil stress. This is why, even with BTC being strong, the market can still experience rapid fluctuations. It's headline risk with a timer.' An escalation could push oil prices above the March high of $119, potentially destabilizing Asian and global equity markets. The question remains whether bitcoin, which remained relatively stable around $70,000 during the March conflict, will continue to show resilience or come under pressure alongside the broader market. As of the time of writing, no Iranian delegation had departed for talks in Pakistan. On Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Also under scrutiny is Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh, known for his 'inflation hawk' stance, opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 crash. His remarks during the session could significantly impact markets, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing, according to digital assets trading firm QCP Capital. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies like ether (ETH), solana (SOL), and XRP (XRP) have seen less than a 2% increase over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens, such as XLM and TON, have risen by more than 5% each, with the CoinDesk Memecoin Index increasing by over 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index added 2%, a surprising move given the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token on several DeFi platforms. Decentralized lender Aave has been hit the hardest, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a drop of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token reached a record high of 3.59 million tokens, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead. Currently trending is the signal that XRP remains below both its 100-day average and the prolonged bear market trendline, even as market leaders bitcoin and ether have surpassed these levels on their respective price charts. Until XRP reclaims both the 100-day average and the downtrend line, its momentum remains weaker compared to BTC and ETH, which have established firmer bullish structures.
