Ethereum Co-Founder Warns of AI Control Risks

The next significant turning point for cryptocurrency is likely to come from advancements in artificial intelligence, according to Joseph Lubin, the co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of Consensys. Lubin predicts that autonomous agents will be able to transact and coordinate with one another on decentralized networks, utilizing crypto infrastructure as the foundation for machine-driven activities. He believes that while AI may become the intermediary layer between humans and protocols, it also poses risks if controlled by a few large tech firms. Decentralized systems and cryptography will be crucial in ensuring accountability, allowing machines to verify each other in transparent environments. Lubin also discussed the evolution of MetaMask, stablecoins, and tokenization, and downplayed the long-term risks of quantum computing, stating that Ethereum developers have been preparing for it. He envisions a future where AI-powered agents manage assets and execute transactions on behalf of users, and believes that traditional finance and decentralized finance are converging to create a more programmable global economy.
