Parasite Mining Pool Strikes Again with Second Bitcoin Block

A groundbreaking Bitcoin mining pool, Parasite Pool, has demonstrated the effectiveness of its novel design by mining its second block. This achievement, which occurred on Friday, marks the pool's second success since its launch in April 2025, with the first block mined roughly 48 days prior. The block in question, number 945,601, contained 7,398 transactions and generated 0.002 BTC in fees, with Bitcoin trading at $76,213 at the time. The pool's distinctive hybrid model, which has no equivalent in mainstream mining, awards the winning miner 1 BTC and distributes the remaining 2.125 BTC, plus fees, proportionally among all participants based on their contributed shares since the previous block. Notably, participation in this pool is fee-free, and payouts are facilitated through the Lightning Network. The underlying principle of Bitcoin mining involves computers competing to solve a complex cryptographic puzzle every 10 minutes, with the winner earning the right to add the next block of transactions to the blockchain and receiving a reward. Currently, this reward consists of 3.125 BTC, plus transaction fees, valued at approximately $238,000, down from 6.25 BTC following the April 2024 halving and scheduled to decrease further to 1.5625 BTC in 2028. The mining landscape is dominated by industrial operators utilizing large-scale facilities equipped with specialized ASIC hardware, which consumes significant amounts of electricity. Mining pools, such as Parasite, aim to mitigate the variance in block discovery by aggregating the hashrate of numerous participants, thereby distributing proceeds based on contribution rather than a winner-takes-all approach. Founded by ZK Shark, the creator of the Ordinal Maxi Biz NFT collection on Bitcoin, Parasite targets home miners. In contrast to pure solo pools like CKpool, which pay the full block reward minus a 2% fee to the finder, Parasite's model splits the difference, preserving the lottery-style payday for the winner while ensuring a steady flow of satoshis to participants between blocks. The pool's second block discovery carries greater significance, as it has retained hashrate throughout the 48-day gap between payouts, validating the proportional distribution mechanics. With a current hashrate of 52 petahashes per second, down from a peak of 182 PH/s in June 2025, Parasite accounts for roughly 0.005% of Bitcoin's estimated 1-zetahash network hashrate. The recent trend in solo and small-pool mining has been notable, with instances of home miners beating significant odds to claim substantial rewards. Parasite is the first pool of its scale to test the viability of a hybrid split in maintaining participant engagement during periods without block discoveries. A third block discovery within the next two months would substantiate the effectiveness of Parasite's model, while a six-month drought would suggest that the first two blocks were anomalies.
