Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing

Bitcoin, currently trading at $77,703.90, has demonstrated a positive trend above the $75,000 mark, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as vital for bulls to maintain dominance. However, analysts urge caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted, 'The ceasefire is set to end on Wednesday evening Washington time, and the market must consider two paths: extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil stress. This situation presents headline risk with a timer.' An escalation could significantly increase oil prices, potentially above the March high of $119, and impact Asian and global equity markets. The question remains whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience or succumb to pressure alongside the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without an agreement. Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, scheduled for Tuesday, is also on analysts' radar. Warsh, known as an 'inflation hawk,' has opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing in the past. His statements during the hearing could significantly impact markets, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing, according to QCP Capital. In the broader cryptocurrency market, major currencies like ether, solana, and XRP have seen less than a 2% increase over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens, such as XLM and TON, have risen by more than 5% each, with the CoinDesk Memecoin Index increasing by over 3%. The DeFi Select Index added 2%, a surprising move given the recent hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used collateral token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with its total value of locked crypto assets falling to $16 billion, a drop of nearly $10 billion since the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility.
