Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level as Markets Await Warsh Hearing and Iran Ceasefire Deadline
Bitcoin is currently trading at $77,910.92, maintaining a positive trajectory above the $75,000 threshold, which is seen as a vital level for bulls to retain control. However, market observers are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level beyond Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is scheduled to expire. Analysts at Marex noted that the market must consider two possible paths - an extension and de-escalation or a renewed escalation and increased oil prices - which could lead to rapid price fluctuations. This deadline poses a significant risk, as an escalation could drive oil prices above $119, potentially causing a downturn in Asian and global equity markets. The resilience of bitcoin, which remained relatively stable around $70,000 during the March conflict, is being closely watched. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for the talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a significant escalation if the ceasefire ends without an agreement. Additionally, the nomination hearing of Kevin Warsh for Federal Reserve chair is scheduled for Tuesday, and his remarks could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies like ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. However, smaller tokens like XLM and TON have risen by over 5% each, and the CoinDesk Memecoin Index has increased by more than 3%. Notably, the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the KelpDAO hack over the weekend, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been severely impacted, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token has reached a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
