UK Aims to Lure Crypto Heavyweight Bybit to London, Chasing UAE's Innovative Edge

In a move to replicate the success of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, UK economic development officials have invited Bybit's leadership to London, seeking to establish the city as a hub for cryptocurrency innovation. Bybit CEO Ben Zhou revealed that the UK is eager to attract major businesses, create jobs, and implement pro-crypto regulations. Founded in 2018, Bybit relocated its headquarters from Singapore to Dubai in 2022 and is currently the second-largest crypto exchange after Binance. The presence of crypto giants like Bybit and Binance in the UAE has drawn smaller crypto companies to the region, a trend the UK hopes to emulate. Zhou's meetings with the Financial Conduct Authority and the House of Lords coincided with UK Fintech Week and a Treasury plan to overhaul payment systems using stablecoins and tokenization. The invitation is seen as an attempt by the UK to regain the innovative edge lost to the UAE, particularly in the wake of recent instability in the region.
