Bitcoin's Recent Gains Are Losing Steam as Investors Seek Tangible Progress
The momentum behind Bitcoin's price, which had surged to $78,840.60 following the US-Iran ceasefire, is beginning to wane as markets await concrete signs of progress. After briefly surpassing $76,000, the cryptocurrency's price retreated, mirroring the choppy pattern observed on Tuesday. This stagnation comes on the heels of a 10% increase, primarily driven by the ceasefire announcement. Despite ongoing optimism, with President Donald Trump suggesting the conflict is nearing its end, negotiations to restore oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz have seen limited progress. According to QCP Capital, one of the world's largest digital asset market makers, 'A ceasefire extension alone is no longer sufficient; markets require tangible progress, such as the restoration of energy flows, a decrease in crude premia, and clearer disinflation.' Traders are advised to monitor oil prices closely, as signs of normalization are likely to emerge in energy markets first. The recent decline in Bitcoin and Ether's 30-day implied volatility indexes suggests traders are anticipating significant progress soon. Meanwhile, Solana (SOL) and DOGE could experience heightened volatility due to the increase in open futures contracts tied to these tokens, which have reached multiweek highs. This surge in demand for leveraged exposure often amplifies price swings through liquidations and increased market turbulence. Alex Kuptsikevich, FxPro's chief market analyst, noted that Solana has significantly outperformed the market over the last day, attempting to bounce off an important long-term support line, but failing to do so for over two months now. The analyst added, 'We will only be able to declare a victory for the bulls once it has consolidated above the $105 level, at which point we can discuss a return above the 200-week moving average.' In traditional markets, the MOVE index, which measures volatility in US Treasury notes, has declined to 65%, reversing the war-led spike to 115% in March. This development is bullish for risk assets, as stability in the US bond market helps ease credit and financial conditions. The chart illustrating Bitcoin's hourly price action since March 31 reveals a steady upward trajectory, carrying the asset from roughly $65,700 to around $76,000. Although the chart appears bullish with consistently higher lows, there is a caveat. Within this uptrend, the price has briefly topped $76,000 at least twice, and both attempts have failed to produce a decisive breakout. From a technical analysis perspective, this indicates a developing double-top pattern, where two peaks form near the same level, signaling potential exhaustion in bullish momentum. If the price dips below $73,300, the low formed between the two peaks, the double top pattern would be confirmed, suggesting scope for a deeper decline to $70,000. Conversely, a sustained move above $76,000 could draw in more traders and strengthen the case for a rally to $88,000.
