Bitcoin Holds Above Crucial Level as Market Awaits Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive trend above the $75,000 threshold, a level previously identified by CoinDesk as crucial for bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The impending end of the ceasefire has introduced uncertainty into the market, with analysts at Marex noting that the market must consider two possible paths: extension and de-escalation, or renewed escalation and increased oil prices. This uncertainty could lead to rapid price movements. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above the March high of $119, potentially causing significant turmoil in Asian and global equity markets. It remains to be seen whether bitcoin will continue to show resilience, as it did during the March conflict when it remained relatively stable around $70,000. As of the latest update, no Iranian delegation had departed for talks in Pakistan, and on Monday, President Donald Trump warned of a significant escalation in the conflict if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve Chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his hawkish stance on inflation, having opposed interest-rate cuts and quantitative easing following the 2008 crash. His comments during the hearing could have a significant impact on the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing, according to digital assets trading firm QCP Capital. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies such as ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. However, smaller tokens like XLM and TON have seen more substantial gains of over 5% each, and the CoinDesk Memecoin Index has risen by over 3%. The DeFi Select Index has also added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the weekend hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly affected, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since before the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility ahead.
