The World digital identity project, backed by Sam Altman, has introduced its most substantial upgrade to date, focusing on 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure for consumers, enterprises, and AI agents. This overhaul aims to address growing concerns over bots and deepfakes impersonating humans online. The system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices for in-person verification, scanning users' faces and irises to generate unique cryptographic codes. The update features a redesigned architecture emphasizing improved privacy, security, and usability, with new features such as account-based identity and multi-key support. World is also launching a dedicated app for users to manage credentials and authenticate across platforms. Additionally, the company is expanding its partnerships with various platforms, including Tinder, Zoom, and Docusign, to integrate its identity layer and combat issues like scalper bots and deepfakes.
