UK Courts Crypto Exchange Bybit in Bid to Replicate UAE's Innovative Spirit
In a bid to replicate the success of Dubai and the UAE in attracting major cryptocurrency companies, UK economic development officials have invited Bybit's leadership to London for high-level discussions. Bybit CEO Ben Zhou revealed that the UK is eager to attract large businesses, create jobs, and establish a pro-crypto regulatory framework. Founded in 2018, Bybit relocated its headquarters from Singapore to Dubai in 2022 and is currently ranked as the second-largest crypto exchange by CoinGecko. The arrival of crypto giants like Bybit and Binance in the UAE has created a magnetic effect, drawing smaller crypto companies to the region. Zhou noted that the UK aims to emulate this success, and his invitation includes meetings with the Financial Conduct Authority and representatives of the House of Lords. The move coincides with UK Fintech Week and the Treasury's plan to revamp payment systems using stablecoins and tokenization. Zhou stated that the UK government is pushing for innovation, particularly in the crypto sector, and is seeking to win back companies that have relocated to the UAE. The invitation's timing is notable, given the recent instability in the UAE due to the US-Israel war, which has prompted an outflow of residents, tourists, and businesses.
