The Ethereum Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing a critical need within the ecosystem: bolstering security measures. The organization has introduced a novel initiative to combat the persistently high costs associated with smart contract security audits in crypto development. Through the newly established "Audit Subsidy Program", the foundation has formed partnerships with prominent audit providers and key ecosystem players to increase accessibility to professional security assessments for developers.

With the support of a $1 million subsidy fund, the program aims to mitigate the financial hurdles that have historically hindered numerous teams from conducting comprehensive audits, despite their recognition as a crucial industry standard. This initiative is an integral part of the foundation's overarching Trillion Dollar Security Initiative, which focuses on fortifying Ethereum as it expands to accommodate increasingly complex applications and larger on-chain value transfers.

The program boasts an impressive roster of partners, including Nethermind, Chainlink Labs, and Areta, facilitating connections between builders and over 20 reputable audit firms to streamline access to trusted security expertise throughout the ecosystem. Concurrently with the program's launch, the foundation unveiled a new framework known as the "CROPS principles", an acronym representing censorship resistance, open source, privacy, and security. This framework is designed to provide guidance on the development and evaluation of applications within the Ethereum ecosystem.

Developers can submit their projects for consideration, following which an expert committee will review the applications. Upon selection, teams will receive subsidies that can be directly applied to audit services via Areta's platform. The program is open to all Ethereum mainnet developers, regardless of their project's size or stage.

According to the foundation, "the subsidy program enhances accessibility to audits and fortifies the Ethereum ecosystem". For further information: Ethereum Foundation releases a new mandate outlining its role and core principles
