High-Speed Trading Technology from Wall Street Enters Crypto with DoubleZero's Solana Data Platform
The DoubleZero Foundation has introduced a platform designed to accelerate the delivery of crypto market data to trading firms, marking a significant step towards adopting Wall Street-style systems in digital asset markets. DoubleZero Edge, the project's first offering, launched on Thursday, providing a real-time feed of raw data from the Solana blockchain. This allows traders to access information that can impact prices more quickly. Solana, a high-performance blockchain popular among traders, generates vast amounts of real-time data as transactions are processed. DoubleZero Edge taps into this system by collaborating with validators to distribute data more rapidly to market participants. Unlike traditional finance, where exchanges rely on specialized networks for high-speed data delivery, crypto markets still largely depend on the public internet, which can introduce delays and inconsistencies. DoubleZero aims to change this by developing a dedicated system specifically designed for on-chain data. According to the company, the new network can reduce data delivery times by tens of milliseconds, with more significant gains during periods of heavy network activity. For high-frequency trading firms, even minor speed improvements can result in a competitive advantage. The platform operates by sending data over a private fiber network using multicast, a method commonly employed in traditional financial markets to distribute data simultaneously to multiple participants. In addition to speed, DoubleZero is also introducing a new economic model. Solana network validators can earn extra revenue by providing data to the platform, while traders pay to subscribe to the feeds using USDC. The launch comes as crypto trading firms increasingly seek more reliable and predictable infrastructure, particularly as competition intensifies and margins tighten. DoubleZero claims its system could help level the playing field by reducing uncertainty in how quickly market data reaches participants. Andrew McConnell, a co-founder of DoubleZero, stated in a press release, 'Traditional finance has spent decades building infrastructure where speed and deterministic performance are a real competitive advantage. On-chain markets didn't have that foundation, leaving even sophisticated trading firms working on uneven ground. Deterministic infrastructure removes a risk market makers have to price in, leading to tighter spreads and better execution.'
