Patrick Witt, the executive director of the President's Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, has stated that efforts are underway to solidify the compromise that will propel the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act forward in the U.S. Senate. In a recent interview, Witt noted that while several issues are still being addressed behind the scenes, the common ground reached on stablecoin yield appears to be intact. Witt expressed hope that the compromise will be durable, stressing that resolving the yield issue was a prerequisite for tackling other outstanding matters.
The Clarity Act has faced multiple potential hurdles, including illicit financial protections in the DeFi space and a request to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. Although Witt did not disclose the specific topics that have been settled, he acknowledged that significant progress has been made in the negotiations. The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote.
A recent report by White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt observed that bankers' views on stablecoins vary, with some viewing them more positively than others.
