Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading above $75,000, a level deemed critical by CoinDesk for bulls to maintain control, with a price of $77,494.84. However, observers are advising caution as prices must remain above this level through Wednesday when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted that the market must consider two possible paths - extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil stress - which could lead to significant price movements. The potential escalation could drive oil prices above $119 and negatively impact Asian and global equity markets, raising questions about bitcoin's resilience. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair is also on the radar, with his remarks potentially moving markets, especially if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. Major cryptocurrencies like ether, solana, and XRP have underperformed bitcoin, rising by less than 2% over the past 24 hours. Smaller tokens like XLM and TON have seen significant gains, and the CoinDesk Memecoin Index is up over 3%. The DeFi Select Index added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the KelpDAO hack, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used collateral token. Aave, a decentralized lender, has taken a significant hit, with its total value of crypto assets locked falling to $16 billion. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18%, and open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, pointing to potential volatility ahead.
