Parasite Mining Pool Secures Second Bitcoin Block, Proving Hybrid Model's Effectiveness
A revolutionary bitcoin mining pool, Parasite Pool, has achieved a significant milestone by mining its second block, validating the effectiveness of its hybrid model. This approach, which differs from traditional mining models, has been designed to provide a more equitable distribution of rewards among participants. On Friday, the pool mined block 945,601, marking its second successful block since its launch in April 2025, approximately 48 days after its first block at #938,713. The block contained 7,398 transactions and 0.002 BTC in fees, with bitcoin trading at $76,213 at the time. The pool's hybrid model operates by awarding 1 BTC to the winning miner and distributing the remaining 2.125 BTC plus fees proportionally among all pool participants based on their contributions. Notably, there are no fees associated with participating in this pool, and payouts are facilitated through the Lightning Network. Bitcoin mining is a process where computers compete to solve complex cryptographic puzzles, with the winner earning the right to add the next block of transactions to the blockchain and receiving a reward. Currently, this reward consists of 3.125 BTC plus transaction fees, valued at around $238,000. Parasite Pool, founded by ZK Shark, the creator of the Ordinal Maxi Biz NFT collection on Bitcoin, is specifically designed for home miners. Unlike pure solo pools, which pay the full block reward minus a fee to the winner, Parasite Pool's hybrid approach preserves the excitement of a potential large payout while ensuring that participants receive a steady stream of satoshis between blocks. The successful mining of the second block carries significant weight, as it demonstrates the pool's ability to retain hashrate and validate its proportional distribution mechanics. With a current hashrate of 52 petahashes per second, Parasite Pool accounts for approximately 0.005% of the estimated 1-zetahash network hashrate. The recent trend of solo and small-pool mining has been notable, with instances of home miners and small operators achieving significant rewards. For example, a 230 terahash-per-second home miner recently claimed a $210,000 reward, while another operator rented cloud hashrate to validate a block and earned a $200,000 payday. Parasite Pool is the first large-scale pool to test a hybrid split, and its success will be closely watched in the coming months. If the pool can mine a third block within the next two months, it will provide strong evidence for the viability of its model, while a prolonged drought would suggest that the first two blocks were exceptional cases.
