Bitcoin price holds steady above crucial level ahead of key events
Bitcoin is currently trading with a positive trend above the $75,000 threshold, a level deemed critical by CoinDesk for the bulls to maintain their grip on the market. However, some analysts are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this level through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. The market is bracing for two possible scenarios: an extension of the ceasefire and de-escalation, or a renewed escalation that could lead to increased oil prices and market volatility. Analysts at Marex note that even if bitcoin remains strong, the market is still vulnerable to sudden changes due to headline risk. An escalation of the conflict could push oil prices above $119, potentially affecting Asian and global equity markets and putting pressure on bitcoin. As of now, no Iranian delegation has left for the talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a significant escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Another key event on the horizon is the nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his stance as an 'inflation hawk,' and his remarks during the hearing could impact the market, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. In the broader market, major cryptocurrencies like ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens like XLM and TON have seen more significant gains, exceeding 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has risen by over 3%, and the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the recent hack of KelpDAO. Decentralized lender Aave has been heavily impacted, with its total value of crypto assets locked falling to $16 billion, a decline of nearly $10 billion since the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined by 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, indicating potential for increased volatility. Meanwhile, XRP remains below its 100-day average and the prolonged bear market trendline, indicating weaker momentum compared to bitcoin and ether.
