Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser to the White House, stated that efforts are ongoing to solidify a compromise that will facilitate the progression of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the U.S. Senate.
In a recent interview on CoinDesk TV, Witt expressed hope that the compromise reached on stablecoin yield will endure, allowing the focus to shift to resolving other outstanding issues. The yield compromise was a crucial step, as it addressed concerns from bankers who had raised alarms about the potential impact on their deposit base.
Witt acknowledged that other potential roadblocks, such as illicit financial protections in the DeFi space and restrictions on government officials profiting from the crypto sector, have been largely resolved through behind-the-scenes negotiations. Although Witt did not specify which topics have been settled, he expressed confidence that the remaining issues can be resolved, given the progress made so far. The Clarity Act will require a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. A recent report from White House economists downplayed the risks associated with stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association.
Witt noted that the views of bankers on stablecoins vary, with some being more positive and others more threatened by the technology.
