Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser to the White House, has stated that efforts are underway to solidify a compromise that will facilitate the advancement of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the U.S. Senate. In a recent interview with CoinDesk TV, Witt expressed optimism about the compromise reached on stablecoin yield, suggesting that it will remain intact.
Witt, who is also set to speak at CoinDesk's Consensus Miami conference, noted that resolving the yield issue was a crucial step before addressing other outstanding matters. The Clarity Act has faced several potential hurdles, including concerns over illicit financial protections in the DeFi space and a proposal to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector.
While Witt did not disclose the specific topics that have been settled, he mentioned that negotiations have made significant progress behind the scenes. The Clarity Act will require a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. Witt remains confident that the remaining issues can be resolved, citing the progress made so far.
The White House economists recently issued a report downplaying the threats posed by stablecoin yield, which was met with a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt acknowledged that bankers have varying views on stablecoins, depending on their proximity to the technology.
