Bitcoin Surpasses Critical Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading above $75,000, a level deemed crucial by CoinDesk for bulls to maintain control. However, observers are advising caution as prices must remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the US-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex note that the market must consider two potential paths: extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil stress, which could lead to significant price gaps. An escalation could lead to a substantial increase in oil prices, potentially causing Asian and global equity markets to decline sharply. The question remains whether bitcoin will remain resilient or come under pressure along with the broader market. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. Kevin Warsh's nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair is also on analysts' radar, scheduled for Tuesday. Warsh is known for his stance as an 'inflation hawk,' and his remarks could act as a near-term catalyst, particularly if they reinforce expectations of policy easing. Major cryptocurrencies such as ether, solana, and XRP have risen by less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. Smaller tokens like XLM and TON have seen significant gains of over 5% each. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index has increased by over 3%, and the DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the industry-wide fallout from the KelpDAO hack. Decentralized lender Aave has taken a significant hit, with the total value of crypto assets locked on its platform falling to $16 billion. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93 since the hack, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, pointing to potential volatility ahead.
