Patrick Witt, the White House's primary crypto adviser, has stated that efforts are underway to solidify a compromise that could facilitate the advancement of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act in the U.S. Senate. In a recent interview on CoinDesk TV, Witt expressed optimism that the common ground reached by key senators from both parties on stablecoin yield will endure. Witt noted that resolving the yield issue was a crucial step before addressing other outstanding matters, which he is now focusing on.
The Clarity Act had faced several potential obstacles, including concerns over illicit financial protections in the decentralized finance space and a request to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. Although Witt did not disclose the specific topics that have been settled, he acknowledged that significant progress has been made in the background negotiations. The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote.
A recent report by White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt observed that bankers have varying views on stablecoins, depending on their proximity to the technology.
