Bitcoin Surpasses Crucial Threshold Ahead of Warsh Hearing
Bitcoin is currently trading above $75,000, a level deemed critical for the bulls to maintain control, according to recent analysis by CoinDesk. Despite this positive trend, some experts are advising caution, emphasizing the need for prices to remain above this threshold through Wednesday, when the U.S.-Iran ceasefire is set to expire. Analysts at Marex noted that the market must consider two possible paths - extension and de-escalation versus renewed escalation and oil stress - which could lead to significant price fluctuations. The potential for escalation could drive oil prices above $119, potentially impacting Asian and global equity markets. Bitcoin's resilience during the March conflict, when it remained steady around $70,000, raises questions about its potential response to market pressure. As of now, no Iranian delegation has departed for talks in Pakistan, and President Donald Trump has warned of a major escalation if the ceasefire ends without a deal. The upcoming nomination hearing for Federal Reserve chair, Kevin Warsh, is also being closely watched, as his remarks could influence market expectations of policy easing. Major cryptocurrencies like ether, solana, and XRP have seen modest gains of less than 2% over the past 24 hours, underperforming bitcoin. However, smaller tokens such as XLM and TON have risen by more than 5% each, and the CoinDesk Memecoin Index is up over 3%. The DeFi Select Index has added 2%, despite the recent hack of KelpDAO, which saw the attacker drain rsETH, a widely used liquid restaking token. Decentralized lender Aave has been significantly impacted, with its total value of crypto assets locked falling to $16 billion, down nearly $10 billion since the hack. Aave's native token, AAVE, has declined 18% to $93, while open interest in futures tied to the token has hit a record high, pointing to potential volatility ahead.
