The World digital identity project, backed by Sam Altman, has introduced its most substantial upgrade to date, focusing on 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure for consumers, enterprises, and AI agents. This overhaul aims to address growing concerns over bots and deepfakes impersonating humans online. The system utilizes custom-built 'Orb' devices for face and iris scans to generate unique cryptographic codes, ensuring a person's online identity without revealing personal data. The update features a redesigned architecture for improved privacy, security, and usability, including account-based identity, multi-key support, and recovery mechanisms. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced to manage credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly. The company is expanding partnerships with various platforms, such as Tinder, Zoom, and Docusign, to embed its identity layer and combat issues like scalper bots and deepfakes. New tooling, including 'AgentKit,' will allow developers to attach human-verified credentials to agents for sensitive actions and enable agent-based commerce.
