Cardano Founder Disputes Bitcoin's Quantum Solution, Claims It Won't Rescue Satoshi's Coins
Cardano's Charles Hoskinson has expressed concerns over Bitcoin's proposed defense against quantum computer attacks, stating it is technically flawed and cannot protect the network's earliest coins. He believes the solution, BIP-361, is incorrectly classified as a soft fork and would actually require a hard fork, which could invalidate existing signature schemes. Furthermore, Hoskinson claims that the proposed zero-knowledge recovery plan is insufficient to rescue roughly 1.7 million pre-2013 bitcoins, including those belonging to Satoshi Nakamoto, due to their reliance on an older key derivation method. The Cardano founder argues that Bitcoin's lack of formal on-chain governance hinders the network's ability to resolve such tradeoffs through a structured process, leading to contentious upgrades being negotiated through informal channels.
