Patrick Witt, the primary crypto adviser to the White House, has expressed optimism that a recent compromise on stablecoin yield will hold firm, facilitating the progression of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act through the U.S. Senate. In a recent interview, Witt indicated that several other issues are being addressed behind the scenes.
He suggested that the common ground achieved by key senators from both parties regarding stablecoin yield appears to be intact. Witt emphasized the importance of resolving the yield issue, stating that it was a prerequisite for moving forward with other outstanding matters. The Clarity Act has faced numerous potential hurdles, including concerns over illicit financial protections in the decentralized finance space and a request to bar senior government officials from profiting from the crypto sector. While Witt did not disclose the specific topics that have been settled, he noted that significant progress has been made in the ongoing negotiations.
The Clarity Act requires a markup hearing in the Senate Banking Committee before it can proceed to a final Senate vote. A recent report by White House economists downplayed the threats posed by stablecoin yield, prompting a response from the American Bankers Association. Witt acknowledged that bankers have varying views on stablecoins, depending on their proximity to the technology.
