Ex-UK Prime Minister Warns of Economy's Downward Spiral, Expresses Support for Bitcoin
The UK's former Prime Minister, Liz Truss, has voiced concerns that the country's economy has been stagnant for decades due to the erosion of the currency's value and a lack of sound monetary policies. Truss, who briefly led the Conservative government in 2022, attributes many of the economic woes to the debasement of the currency and inflation. Her interest in bitcoin was piqued during her tenure as Chief Secretary to the Treasury, where she first encountered the cryptocurrency as a potential solution to the debasement issue. Truss expressed her strong interest in bitcoin, which she believes can help counter the trend of centralized control and promote financial independence. According to Truss, the economy is on a 'very negative trajectory,' with the country facing long-term decline due to weak growth, rising state control, and failed monetary policies. She argues that high taxes, regulations, and energy costs are discouraging entrepreneurship and creating a disincentive to work. Truss also reflected on the market turmoil that followed the 2022 mini-budget, suggesting that it exposed underlying fragilities in the system rather than causing them. Outside of government, Truss is now focused on building a political movement, including the CPAC UK conference, which aims to bring together like-minded individuals to drive economic reform and promote sovereignty and liberty. She emphasizes the need for change, stating that the alternatives are either accepting decline or driving transformation.
