Parasite Mining Pool Strikes Again with Second Bitcoin Block
A revolutionary Bitcoin mining pool, Parasite Pool, has achieved its second block, validating its innovative design. The pool, which launched in April 2025, mined block 945,601 on Friday, roughly 48 days after its first block at #938,713 in late February. This block contained 7,398 transactions and 0.002 BTC in fees, with Bitcoin trading at $76,213 at the time. The pool operates on a distinctive hybrid model, where the winning miner receives 1 BTC, and the remaining 2.125 BTC plus fees are distributed proportionally among all pool participants based on shares submitted since the previous block. This approach has no parallel in mainstream mining and offers a unique alternative to the traditional pay-per-share model and pure lottery approach. The pool has no fees, and payouts are made through the Lightning Network. The Bitcoin network is secured through a process where computers compete to solve a cryptographic puzzle every 10 minutes, with the winner earning the right to add the next block of transactions to the blockchain and collecting a reward. The current reward is 3.125 BTC plus transaction fees, worth approximately $238,000 at Friday's price. The mining landscape is dominated by industrial operators with large-scale facilities, but Parasite Pool targets home miners. Founded by ZK Shark, the creator of Ordinal Maxi Biz, an NFT collection on Bitcoin, Parasite Pool offers a unique solution for home miners. Unlike pure solo pools, which pay the full block reward minus a fee to the finder, Parasite Pool splits the difference, preserving the lottery payday while keeping satoshis flowing to participants between blocks. The pool's hashrate currently sits at 52 petahashes per second, and the proportional distribution mechanics have been validated through two rounds. The success of Parasite Pool has significant implications for the mining landscape, and a third block within the next two months would further validate its hybrid model.
