Major Upgrade Unveiled for World Project to Combat Deepfakes and Bots

The World digital identity project, backed by Sam Altman, has announced a significant upgrade to its World ID system, aiming to provide 'full-stack proof of human' infrastructure for consumers, enterprises, and AI agents. This move comes amidst growing concerns over bots and deepfakes impersonating humans online. The upgrade, unveiled at a San Francisco event, introduces a redesigned architecture focusing on improved privacy, security, and usability, with new features such as account-based identity and multi-key support. A dedicated World ID app is also being introduced to allow users to manage their credentials and authenticate across platforms seamlessly. World is expanding its partnerships with various platforms, including Tinder, where users can display a 'verified human' badge, and Zoom, where a 'Deep Face' feature will verify the authenticity of meeting participants. The project is also working with Docusign to incorporate proof-of-human checks into digital agreements, and with other firms like Okta, Vercel, and Browserbase to establish a trust layer for automated workflows without requiring personal data.
